As we bid farewell to the dumpster fire of a year that was 2020, we can finally breathe a sigh of relief. And, yes, just because the calendar switched from December 31st to January 1st doesn’t mean the curse of the COVID-19 pandemic will magically disappear. Odds are 2021 will be just as bad as the previous year, but there is a touch of optimism in the ushering of a new year. So, as we look towards the horizon of 2021 with eager eyes, we thought it’d be a great time to talk about some ways to brighten up your home. Below, you’ll find a handful of great interior design ideas chosen by the Lozano Real Estate Group.

Plants to Bring Life and Comfort to Any Room

Plants can quickly liven up any room. Even if you don’t consider yourself an avid gardener, you can get started with a few, easy-to-care-for houseplants. Go thrifting for unique planters and take a walk through a local nursery and see what speaks to you. Some popular beginner houseplants include the spider plant, bromeliads, and the snake plant. These plants are as beautiful as they are easy to care for. Set them up in your kitchen, by the sink, or in your bedroom near a window. If you’d rather start off with smaller plants, then you can always go with the classic cacti or succulents. Set some up around your work-from-home office.

Oh, and don’t forget to water your plants! You can even download apps that can remind you to tend to your plants. Florish, for example, can provide you with care instructions and it can even help you find the perfect lighting for your specific houseplants! Now there’s no excuse to not have houseplants.

A quick side note, some plants are toxic to animals. According to the ASPCA, the previously mentioned snake plant is toxic for both cats and dogs. If ingested, this plant can cause your cat or dog to experience nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. So, if you have cats or dogs, make sure to do some research before turning your home into a greenhouse. A cursory Google search can provide a wealth of information on the subject.

Add More Storage to House All Your Stuff

Another great way to liven up your home is by organizing it. If your house tends to look like a mess more often than not, then you should consider expanding your storage options. This doesn’t have to break the bank, either. You can go thrifting for furniture or you could even buy a set of grid wire storage shelves. These shelves are affordable, easy to build, and unique! Once all your stuff has a place to go, your home will feel much more comfortable and put-together.
